There is obviously a difference between online poker and live poker; not so much in the rules of the game as in the approach and the environment in which they are played. Hence the strategy applied to live poker will be somewhat different and also the required skills.

Live poker involves interaction with real people in the real world and when in a group especially in a competitive mood some people skills are a must to maintain a fun environment.

  • When registering with the card room manager, make sure you choose a table within your limits. Suppose if you join a $10 table then you must have at least $150 with you. You must come prepared to win or lose equal amounts.
  • Check out the opponents on the table; if they are more experienced than you try a different table. Choosing the right table is essential in winning. Doing a SWOT analysis will help; that is study the strength, weakness, opportunity (loose players), threat (experts).
  • Your cards must be face down on the table so that you can just pick up the edge a little to take a look at preventing players sitting next to you to look at it. Develop the habit of looking at your card once only since others will be watching your facial expressions.
  • Act in turn; appearing eager or anxious to muck can give away a lot of information to the other players.
  • If you win a pot protect your cards by passing it quietly to the dealer after the chips have been pushed to you so that the cards do not get turned over.

A person playing live poker should have the ability to use your five senses for deriving information out of your opponents which is not required in online poker.

You can change your live poker strategy according to the visual cues you get from your opponents and avoid tables with players that are using advanced live poker strategy.
